William “Larry” Reed, age 70 of Dayton, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 22, 2022. He was born on August 13, 1951, the son of the late Charles Alexander Reed and Velma Irene (James) Reed. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Glen Reed.
Larry was a lifelong resident of Dayton. He graduated from Rhea Central High School in 1969. He was a welder by trade and worked for TVA and other companies. He later worked for the Rhea County Highway Department as an operator. Larry was a former volunteer for the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church. He enjoyed being outdoors, “fooling with cattle”, and spontaneous trips to Murphy, NC. Larry was very outgoing and loved keeping in touch with his friends and listening to his scanner to keep up to date on the happenings around the county. He loved his family and community fiercely.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Revis) Reed; his two daughters, Destiny Absher of Murfreesboro, and Caitlyn (David) West of Huntsville, AL; his two stepdaughters, Jill (Jeff) Davis of Dayton, and JoJo (Orin) Brown of Signal Mountain; his grandson, Aiden Absher of Murfreesboro; his four step-grandchildren, Faith (Daniel) Dotson of Oahu, HI; Shelby and Ethan Davis of Dayton; Blaire Brown of Signal Mountain; many nephews and nieces; his best friend who was like a son, Dean Smith; and his dog Hank.
Funeral services will be Sunday, July 24, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. He will be laid to rest at Spence Cemetery in Dayton.
