William Clay Pelfrey, age 81 of Rockwood, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at his home. He was born in Evensville on November 16, 1940, the son of the late Robert Luther Pelfrey and Lizzie Agnes (Stinnett) Pelfrey. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Alice (Schubert) Pelfrey, his second wife, Wanda (Hamby) Pelfrey; his brother, Charles Pelfrey; his sister, Kathleen Evitt; and his great-granddaughter, Addilynn Grace Pelfrey.
William lived in Rhea County until his marriage to Margaret, lived in Crossville until 1985 when he moved back to Rhea County, and then moved to Rockwood in 2002. He was employed as a welder for 30 years, was a trucker, and was a volunteer firefighter for 25 years in Cumberland County. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, and golfing. He sang gospel music with his family in their group, The Real Gospel Singers. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Rockwood.
He is survived by his three sons, Danny (Sherri) Pelfrey, Tim (Martha) Pelfrey, and Steve (Dawn) Pelfrey, all of Crossville; his daughter, Misty (Tommy) Dodson of Crossville; his brother, Elmer Pelfrey of Grandview; his sister, Wanda Pelfrey of Dayton; his ten grandchildren; and his 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for William will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 12:00 noon with Rev. Daryn Griffis and Rev. Clint Kerns officiating. He will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens next to his wife Margaret.
