William Cowan Pegram, age 90 of Hermitage, formerly of Dayton, died Monday, January 21, 2008 at McKendree Health Care Center in Hermitage, TN. Bill was born September 17, 1917 in Waverly, TN, the son of the late William Erdean and Beulah (Collier) Pegram. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Gladys Lee (Dedmon) Pegram, sisters Mabel Bulla and Louise Booker and granddaughter Janice Darlene Leuty.
Bill had lived in Dayton since 1940 where he was an insurance sales representative. He was the former Mayor and City Councilman of Dayton and was a member of Dayton First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.
Bill is survived by his son, Rev. Dan (Carmoleta) Pegram of Savannah, GA, daughter Moya Leuty of Hermitage, TN, two grandsons, Jim (Carolyn) Leuty, Jr. of Franklin, TN and D. Lynn (Leslie) Pegram of Savannah, GA and three great-grandchildren, Jason Leuty and Laura Leuty of Franklin and Jakob Pegram of Savannah.
Funeral services for Bill will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Milton Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Rhea Memory Gardens.
The family is being served by Vanderwall Funeral Home where they will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00pm.
