Walter Otto Gerber III, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer for over year on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at his home in Spring City, Tennessee. He was born on November 20, 1944 in Lynn, Massachusetts, the son of the late Walter Otto Gerber, Jr. and Lorraine (VanDusen) Gerber. He was also preceded in death by his late wife, Danita Gerber; and his sister, Chari Plough.
A man of remarkable versatility and expertise, he retired from AT&T in Atlanta, Georgia, where he applied his technical acumen as a computer technician before channeling his extensive knowledge into RV inspections. His exceptional mechanical aptitude manifested in multiple endeavors—from operating a successful business restoring and repairing player pianos to mastering the intricacies of recreational vehicle systems. An accomplished author, he co-wrote two books, including one that shared his deep expertise in RV-related topics. His passion for exploration led him to travel extensively in his RV, combining his love of adventure with his technical proficiency. He attended the United Methodist Church in Spring City.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Harvey Gerber of Spring City; his son, Troy (Carol) Gerber of Jersey City, NJ; his sister, Lorraine “Rainey” Nikken of California; his niece, Karla (Steve) McEvoy of Texas; his special friends, Ernie and Debbie Young; and his, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he loved dearly.
