Violet Marie Cather, age 87, of Dayton went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Friday morning, November 28, 2008 at the Soddy Daisy Health Care Center. She was born October 2, 1921 in New London, Iowa, the daughter of the late Bruno and Laura (Connor) Oberman.
Violet was a graduate of the Moody Bible Institute and served many years as a pastor’s wife. She provided care for many pre-school children in her home from the Dayton community. Violet was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher of the Daughter’s of Ruth class. She was also a member of the Bryan Women’s Auxiliary and a member of the Homemakers of America club.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Rev. William Benson Cather, Jr., her four daughters, Laura Ruth Cather and Lynda Jean Cather both of Dayton, Diana L (Paul) Faulkner of Hixson and Jenny Sue (Rev. Rick) Odum of Byron, GA, seven granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Violet will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Milton Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Ogden Cemetery on Dayton Mountain.
The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Sunday after 12 o’clock noon.
