Vernon LeRoy Ledbetter, age 83 of Dayton Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at his home. He was born on November 5, 1937, in Cleveland, OK, the son of the late Henry Forrest Ledbetter and Caroline “Callie” (Horton) Ledbetter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Judy Ledbetter; his brothers, Billy Cotton and James Cotton; and his sister, Willadean Barnett.
Vernon was a veteran of the United States Navy, had two years of technical school training in metallurgy, lived in Dayton for the past 33 years, and was of the Pentecostal faith. He was also formerly employed with the Rhea County Sheriff’s Department.
He is survived by his two brothers Jesse (Millie) Ledbetter of Crystal River, FL, and Omer Ledbetter of Bixby, OK; his nieces and nephews; and his care giver, Elizabeth “Liz” Adkins of Dayton Mountain.
Funeral services with military honors for Vernon will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021, at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Layne Pennington officiating. He will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.
