Velma Ella Newberry, age 97, of Graysville, passed away at her home early Wednesday morning, January 3, 2018. Velma was born May 22, 1920 in Mt. Airy, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Rufus and Dessie (Johnson) Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Newberry; her granddaughter, Stacey Ann Newberry; four sisters and two brothers.
Velma lived in Graysville most of her life as a homemaker. She was a member of the Graysville United Methodist Church. Her hobbies were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Connie Mack (Kay) Newberry of Graysville, her daughter Pam (Jerry) Wilkey of Dayton, her grandchildren: Jeremy (Tiffany) Newberry of Ooltewah and Eric Wilkey of Dayton. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Aiden Reece Wilkey and Ella Addison Wilkey of Dayton; Makaila Raven, Mason Riley, Ava Michelle, Abigail Reese and Cooper Mack Newberry all of Ooltewah and special nieces.
Funeral services for Velma will be held Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Rhea Memory Gardens.
