Theodore Albert Engel, Sr., age 88 of Dayton, died Thursday February 28, 2013 at Rhea Medical Center in Dayton. He was born July 15, 1924 in Allegan, MI to the late Albert and Lola (Miller) Engel. He was also preceded in death by his wife Judith Ann (Visscher) Engel, son Larry Roberts, granddaughter Jennifer Basile, brother Lloyd Engel and sister Mary Lou Engel.
Ted served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. A resident of Dayton for the past 32 years, Ted retired as vice-president of La-Z-Boy in Dayton. He was a member of the Dayton Rotary Club and a member of the First Lutheran Church of Cleveland.
He is survived by his son Ted (Marilyn) Engel, two daughters Ann Marie (Bobby) Perry and Mary (Bill) Knierim all of Dayton, grandchildren Bill (Chasity) Knierim, Jr., Bobby Basile, Stefanie McAllister, Ted (Ashley) Engel, III, Erik (Tracy) Roberts, Ted (Lindsey) Roberts, Jeremiah(Melanie) Perry and Tim Perry, eight great-grandchildren, brother Robert (Pat) Engel of Douglas, MI and sister, Patsy Hopper of Sanibel Island, FL.
Funeral services for Ted will be held Monday at 12:00 noon in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Seaton officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Rhea Memory Gardens followed by a white dove release.
