Shirley Ann Rowe, age 69 of Dayton passed Friday morning, January 20, 2012 at Rhea Medical Center in Dayton. Shirley was born in Henry, TN on May 26, 1942 the daughter of the late Edward and Jewell (Haynes) Cates.
Shirley earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Lane College in Jackson, TN and then earned her Master’s Degree in Science at UT-Martin. For over 42 years Shirley was employed as a teacher and guidance counselor. She was a former secretary of the Modernette Club in Dayton and an active member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church where she had served as secretary and sang in the choir.
She is survived by her daughter, Louise Rowe of Dayton, granddaughter, Khamiah Laramore of Dayton, grandson, Greg Capps of Nashville, brother, G.E. Haynes of Henry, sisters, Hazel “Juanita” Banks of Indianapolis, IN, Cleo Webb of McKenzie and special friend, William Downs of Dayton.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Annette Warren and Rev. Robert Henderson officiating. Graveside services and burial will be held Wednesday at 12 noon in Rhea Memory Gardens.

The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Tuesday after 4:00pm.
