Ruth Ellen Steel, age 92, of Dayton, died Friday morning, June 15, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born January 21, 1920 in Murfreesboro, TN to the late Jim and Martha Belle (Pendergrass) Lowery. She was also preceded in death by her husband Lem Loggines Steel, sons J.T. Steel, Jerry Lee Steel and Paul Steel, daughter Dora Douglas, grandson Curtis Coleman, granddaughter Jessica Nelson and many brothers and sisters.
A resident of Dayton since 1955, she was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Graysville Church of God.
She is survived by her two sons Robert Steel and Andrew (Debbie) Steel, both of Dayton, five daughters, Elizabeth “Nickie” Edmonds and Norma Crowe, both of Dayton, Bessie (Stanley) Denson and Macillo (Jim) Christian, both of Graysville and Glenda Coleman of Evensville, 29 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Ruth will be Sunday at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jimmie Talley officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Rhea Memory Gardens, followed by a white dove release.

The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Saturday after 3:00 pm.
