Rodney Conrad Finkel, age 62, of Dayton died Sunday August 30, 2009 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. Rodney was born July 17, 1947 in Portsmouth, VA, to the late Herman and Marie (Need) Finkel. He was also preceded in death by a brother Larry Finkel.
Rodney was a graduate of Baker High School in Florida, then served his country with the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier Yorktown and was a member of the helicopter crew recovery team for Apollo 8. He was a carpenter by trade.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Finkel of Dayton, his daughter Dawn (George) Thacker of Spring City, son Steven (Lisa) Finkel of Pikeville, sister Karen Haworth of FL, brothers Kenneth (Katy) Finkel and Dale (Trisha) Finkel both of FL, grandchildren Tyler and Logan Sneed of Spring City, TN and Trent and Kenzie Finkel of Pikeville, TN
Funeral services for Rodney will be Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Eddie Suttles officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be Wednesday at 3:00 pm in Rhea Memory Gardens.
