Robert “Carroll” Thomas, Sr. age 85, of Dayton, died Wednesday morning, April 9, 2014 at his home. He was born October 21, 1928 in Evensville to the late Jacob Aaron and Stella (Swafford) Thomas. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amie Laymon and his three brothers, David, Calvin and Wendell “Rip” Thomas.
A resident of Dayton most of his life, Carroll was employed by Southern Railroad as a signalman and electrician for many years. He enjoyed antiques, gardening and raising cattle. Carroll served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was of the Church of God faith.
Carroll is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nina “Jo”(McNeil) Thomas, his son, Robert “Bobby” Thomas, Jr., both of Dayton; his three daughters, Janice Parks of Lenoir City, Phyllis (Ralph) Shelton and Karon (Randall) Watts, both of Dayton; brother, William (Gladys) Thomas of Warren, MI; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services, with military honors, for Carroll will be held Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Don Fox officiating. He will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jewell Travis officiating.
