Robert Leonard Lewis age 67 of Dayton died Sunday July 8, 2007 in his home.
He was born in Jasper, TN on August 6, 1939 the son of the late Dave and Edna (Hudson) Lewis. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Lona Lee Goforth, Mildred Wilkerson and Jennie Totten, brothers, Harold Lewis, David Lewis and Charles Lewis.
Robert lived in Jasper, TN until moving to Dayton three years ago. He was a graduate of Marion County High School class of 1958 where he won the Golden Gloves Award. He served his country with the US Navy on the USS Bon Homme Richard Aircraft Carrier. Robert retired after 20 years with the Wheland Foundry as maintenance supervisor. He loved fishing and Tennessee Vols Football. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper and then New Union Baptist Church in Dayton.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years JoAnn (Griswold) Lewis, his daughter, Jenefer (Jimmy ) Riggs of Dayton, son, Rob (Beth) Lewis of Dayton, two grandchildren, Andrew Riggs and Alex Riggs both of Dayton, sisters, Willena Dillard of Hixson and Wanda (Leon) Rash of Jasper, TN, brothers, Bill (Jean) Lewis of Oakland, TN, John (Minnie) Lewis of Dalton, GA, Clarence (Frankie) Lewis of Jasper, Harlan (Patsy) Lewis of Jasper, TN and Steve (Charlene) Lewis of Victoria, TN, sister-in-law, Elnora Prestridge and sister-in-law, Kris Lewis both of Chattanooga, his brother-in-law, Howard Wilkerson of Jasper
Funeral services for Robert were held Sunday evening at 8pm in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Danny Reuhling and Rev. Jimmy Jewell officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will be held Tuesday morning at 11am in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family was served by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton.
