Robert Lee Farney age 75 went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 7, 2008 in Rhea Medical Center in Dayton. Bob was born in Hoopeston, IL on March 5, 1932 the son of the late Orville and Louise (Hoffman) Farney. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette (Cox) Farney, three brothers, Duane Farney, Melvin Farney, Gordon Farney, two sisters, Marjorie King and Bernice Webb.
Bob lived in Cedar Lake, IN from 1952 until 1998 at which time he moved to Dayton. In 1985 he retired as a foreman for Cold Strip #2 Inland Steel Company in East Chicago, IN. Bob was a member of the Dayton Lions Club where he served as a past president and also served on the board of directors of the Mid-East Speech and Hearing Center. Bob was also a member of Grace Bible Church in Dayton where he served as trustee and greeter and was a member of the XYZ’ers.
Bob is survived by his four sons, Rick Farney of Dayton, TN, Mark Farney of Lowell, IN, Jeff Farney of Austin, TX and Kerry Farney, his two daughters, Kim Allen of Lafayette, IN and Lori Pillsbury of Greeneville, SC, one brother, Jim Farney of Hoopeston, IL, three sisters, Willa Tuffentsamer of Morton, IL, Imogene Oster of Tuscon, AZ and Joann Davis of New Port Richie, FL. Bob is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and his special friend, Glema Humphrey of Harrison Bay, TN.
Funeral services for Bob will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with his pastor, Dr. Doug Russell officiating.
The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, TN where they will receive friends Friday after 6:00pm. Bob will also lie in state Monday evening from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the Burdan Funeral Home in Cedar Lake, IN. Burial will be in the German Methodist Cemetery in Cedar Lake, IN.
