Robert Beaty Clyburn, Jr., age 59, a long-time resident of Cartersville, GA, is survived by his wife of 34 years Pamela Anderson Clyburn of Pikeville, TN, his children, son Robert Beaty Clyburn III and his fiancé Natalie Peterson of Cartersville, GA, daughter Alexandria Clyburn and her fiancé Amreen Ahmad of Cambridge, MA.
Robbie was the son of the late Rev. Robert Beaty Clyburn, and is survived by his mother Mary Anne Clyburn of Aiken, SC, his siblings, Louanne Craft (Steve) of Blythewood, SC, Melanie Jefferies (Ned) of Raleigh, NC and several nieces and nephews.
Robbie was born in Conway, SC. He lived in many locations in the state and graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1979, Columbia, SC. He was a very proud alumnus of Clemson University, Class of 1983, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Robbie served in the United States Air Force, flying the T-37, T-38, and the KC-135 Stratotanker. He was a pilot for 30 years with American Airlines where he was a 727 and 737 Captain and served as First Officer on the 727, 757, 767, and 777.
Robbie’s aviation career ended 5 years ago after receiving a metastatic prostate cancer diagnosis. His wife and family will be forever grateful to his doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center and all the medical centers that have helped as well. But especially his many friends and loved ones who joined Robbie in celebrating life each and every day.
Robbie was an avid sports enthusiast especially college basketball and whatever sport his children were playing. Also, he loved road trips with his wife and visiting friends and making new ones along the way. He passionately pursued anything that caught his fancy, including most recently, building a barn home in the mountains of Tennessee.
A private interment will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be Saturday, October 17th, 2020. Please email
