James "J.J." Grant

October 4, 1914 — August 11, 2008

Rev. James Judd “J.J.” Grant, age 93 of Dayton, TN went to be with his Lord August 11, 2008 at Rhea Medical Center in Dayton. Rev. Grant was born October 4, 1914 in Bryson City, NC, the son of the late Dock Sidney and Lucy (Snider) Grant. He was also preceded in death by his wife Hazel (Sherrill) Grant.

Rev. Grant lived in Bryson City and Burlington, NC before moving to Dayton in 1963. He founded and pastored the Victory Baptist Church in Bryson City and was a member of the Delashmitt Road Baptist Church in Hixson, TN. In addition to being a pastor, Rev. Grant was employed in floor sanding and finishing.

He is survived by his three daughters, Margaret (Ronny) Way of Evensville, Wanda (Roy) Kelley and Pam (Jim) Montgomery both of Dayton, three sons, Richard (Jane) Grant of Lenoir City, James (Pat) Grant of Philadelphia, Doug (Janet) Grant of Grandview, 18 grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren and his sister, Pauline VanHorn of Hickory, NC.

Funeral services for Rev. Grant will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ronnie Smith and Rev. Danny Sweet officiating. Burial will follow next to his wife in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton.

The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Wednesday from 2:00pm until 8:00pm.
