Ramarion W. King, age 101 of Dayton, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. She was born in Vernon, Texas, on April 18, 1923, the daughter of the late Ray L. Walde and Roselyn (Baird) Walde. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Garrow King.
Ramarion lived in Dayton for the last four years, having lived previously in Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Pennsylvania and Maryland. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Oklahoma State University and a Master’s degree in Special Education from Maryland University. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority, SAI music sorority, PEO – a women’s philanthropic organization, and the Ft. Worth Opera Company. She was a Girl Scout leader and a member of the United Methodist Church in Rockville, Maryland – Mill Creek Parish.
Ramarion enjoyed travel, camping, and singing in the church choir. She was an avid student of the Bible. Her favorite pastimes were reading in a variety of genres, watching old movies, and working crossword puzzles. Her taste in music ranged from opera to jazz to the Beatles to Willie Nelson. And she so loved teaching the special needs children in her classes for 20+ years. But her favorite thing of all was to hang out with the people in her family, eating, laughing, talking and playing games together, from Bridge to Scrabble to Trivial Pursuit.
Ramarion is survived by her three daughters, Karen (Bart) Slikker of Dayton, Patricia (Reece) Freeman of Pikeville, TN, and Barbara (Ron) Bryant of Henrico, NC; and her son, William Garrow (Jan) King, Jr. of Snow Hill, MD. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and her 15 great-grandchildren, and one more on the way. She has always been a rock, the strong foundation for this close-knit and loving family.
Funeral services for Ramarion will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Rockville, Maryland, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
