Rachel Joanne (Ross) Morgan, age 78 of Dayton died Sunday morning, February 26, 2012 at her home. Rachel was born in Frankfort, KS on July 21, 1933 the daughter of the late Rev. Archie and Dora (Schmidt) Ross and was also preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Morgan.
Rachel earned her B.S. at Bob Jones University and her M.A. from Northwestern University. She was a professor of speech and drama at Miami (Ohio) University and then Bryan College in Dayton. Rachel had been a resident of Dayton since 1972 where she was a member of the Dayton First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Gideon’s Auxiliary and the Southern Speech Communication Association.
She is survived by her daughter, Libby (Charles) Lewis of Richmond, VA, son, Ken Morgan of Knoxville, three grandchildren, her sister, Muriel Humphrey of Pella, IA, her brother, Kenneth Ross of Cleveland and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Rachel will be held Friday afternoon at 4:00pm in the funeral home chapel with her pastor, Rev. Ken Pierce officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Buttram Cemetery.
