Paul Odran Johnson

December 12, 1960 — June 23, 2023

Paul Odran Johnson, age 62 of Dayton, peacefully passed into the presence of his Savior on June 23, 2023, at his home. He was born on December 12, 1960, in Houma, Louisiana to Dell and Mary (Wofford) Johnson.

Paul served his country in the US Army at Fort Campbell, KY and in Korea and Panama.

After his army service, Paul attended Bryan College graduating in 1993 with a Bachelor’s degree in Bible. While studying at Bryan, Paul met the love of his life, Vonnie, and they were married in July 1991.

After his graduation, Paul worked as a computer engineer for a variety of companies. For several years, he also ran his own computer business, and received great satisfaction from the many opportunities it gave him to teach others how to use and troubleshoot their own computers. Other things enjoyed by Paul include hiking, scuba diving (in which he was certified at the age of 12), drawing, playing guitar, cooking, and photography. He also loved the adventure of travel with Vonnie, exploring the hidden byways of the world, including India and Bolivia.

He was an active member of Grace Bible Church, where he enjoyed working with children, teaching Bible, and discipling others with their walk with Jesus. Paul found daily strength from knowing his Savior and looking forward to the life he knew was waiting for him. Even in his final weeks, he encouraged and witnessed to many others.

Paul is survived by his mother Mary and his loving wife Vonnie, his two brothers, Ron (Louise) Johnson of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Tim Johnson of Anderson, California. He is also survived by his nieces Alisa Johnson, Ami (Bart Hauptman), and nephew Ryan (Emily) Johnson, brothers-in-law Bert & Jerry, sisters-in-law Alice, Trenda, Arlene, and Joyce, and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at Grace Bible Church in Dayton on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Woychuk and Rev. Tim Wehse officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Paul will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
