Opal Beatrice (Gentry) Hall, age 80 of Dayton died at her home August 1, 2007. Opal was born in Burkburnett, TX on December 7, 1926 the daughter of the late John Ernest Gentry and Laura Alffaretta (Bogart) Gentry. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Melvin Glyndene Hall, Sr., and her sisters, Wynola Irene Gentry and Winnona Corene Gentry Bennett.
Opal was a graduate of the Fairview High School in Burkburnett, TX, class of 1943 and had been employed as a bookkeeper. Opal has been a resident of Dayton since 1960 where she and her late husband were the owners and operators of the Blythe’s Ferry on Route 60 in Dayton from 1961 until 1975.
Opal is survived by her four sons, Melvin G. (Peggy) Hall, Jr. of Dayton, Marvin E. (Ingrid) Hall of Dayton, William “Bill” E. (Judy) Hall of Elba, AL, K. Dale (Penny) Hall of Canton, GA, her daughter, Mary Alffaretta “Retta” (Randy) Ford of Lynchburg, VA, sister, Betty Carol Wheeler of Wichita Falls, TX, sister-in-law, Cynthia Orlean Payne of Dayton, OH, grandchildren, Melvin G. (Glyn) Hall, III of Dayton, James Hall of Dayton, Kristopher B. (Kris) Hall of Augusta, GA, Kimberly “Kim” H. (John) Henson of Stuttgart, AR, Laura (Jimmy) Smith of Daleville, AL, Melissa (Daniel) Ward of Kennesaw, GA, Grant Ford of Arlington, VA, Elisabeth “Beth” (Jonathan) Adel of Alpharetta, GA, Felicia Cooper of Canton, GA., two great-grandchildren, Jeff David Henson of Stuttgart, AR, Charles William Ward of Kennesaw, GA and many, many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Opal will be held Saturday morning at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joe Jacks officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband in Rhea Memory Gardens.
The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm and also one hour prior to the service.
