Nola Cook McHone Schaffer, age 73 died early Sunday morning July 22, 2012 at her sister’s home on Dayton Mountain. Nola was born in Monroe County on July 12, 1939 the daughter of the late Thomas R. Cook Sr. and Lula (Lowry) Cook. She was also preceded in death by her son Timothy McHone. Nola was a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church in Decatur and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Schaffer of Dayton, her son, Charles Edward (Sandy) McHone of Ooltewah, two daughters, Marie Charles of Decatur and Michelle Monroe of Athens, two brothers, T.R. (special friend Betty Swartz) Cook, Jr. of Vienna, VA and James Carson (Martha) Cook of Houston, TX, six sisters, Eula (Albert) Hagy of Maryville, Mary Rose Moore of Rising Fawn, GA, Joyce Sweis of Wheatland, CA, Quincetta (Wilford) Bookout of Maryville, Jewell (George) Frazier of Dayton Mountain and Gena Robin (Rex) Smith of Spring City, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Nola will be held Tuesday evening at 8:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tim Wilkey officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her parents in Ogden Cemetery on Dayton Mountain Wednesday morning at 11:00am.
