Ms Nettie was born May 1,1912 in Lambertville, New Jersey, the youngest of six children to her parents, Mary and Frank McNamara. She lived there along the towpath of the Delaware River until 1929 when she moved to Newark, New Jersey and began a career with New Jersey Bell Telephone Company where she coordinated the Yellow Pages. She married Lt Commander Luther Hafer in 1941 and they moved to Westfield New Jersey in 1947 where she became very active in fund raising, the Girls Scouts, volunteering at the Children’s Specialized Hospital, and loving the game of bridge with friends. She was a 50-year member of the Presbyterian Church of Westfield where she taught Sunday School, volunteered in the church office, and was active in many women’s ministries. After moving to Dayton in 1994, she attended First Methodist Church and became active in the Dayton Garden Club and the Readers Club.
Survivors: Daughter Linda (John) Blevins and Niece Susan (Jim) McNamara Faas. Grandchildren: Wendy (Steven) Holcomb Burch, Jimmy (Anne) Holcomb, David (Diana) Holcomb, Ben (Cindy) Pectol, Julie Blevins, Philip Blevins, and Jennifer (Chris) Blevins Beam. Grandnieces: Patricia Erin Faas and Emily Margaret Faas, and seven great-grandchildren. Ms. Nettie had three very special caregivers and friends: Mrs. Martha Richardson, Mrs. Betty Bradford, and Ms. Alice Travis. She went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 19, 2009.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 11 at the First Methodist Church, Dayton Tn. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to First Methodist Church, Dayton, the Rhea Healthcare Foundation, Dayton, or the Ronald McDonald House.
