Nancy Carolyn Rodgers Smith, age 83 of Dayton, passed away Thursday morning August 6, 2020 after a long battle with heart disease. Nancy was born on March 3, 1937 in GA to the late Dr. JJ Rodgers and Vivian Edwards Rodgers.
The family moved to Dayton, TN where Nancy was raised with her three brothers. She graduated from Rhea County High School and attended Vanderbilt University and graduated with BA degree in History and English. She lived in CA, NYC and Miami as a Flight Attendant with Eastern Airlines. Nancy met her future husband and raised her four children in Miami where she lived as a housewife and mother for 30+ years and was active in Silverliners and the church. In 1992, after hurricane Andrew, she returned home to Dayton where she was active in the Book Club and the Garden Club as well as singing in the choir at First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her four children, daughter Vivian, and sons Steve, Robert and Richard Smith and their wives Theresa, Andrea and Elise. Nancy also leaves behind her brothers Robert, Jim and Thomas Rodgers and their wives Joyce, Linda and Judy. Nancy was lucky to be a grandmother to 12 grandchildren who filled her life with joy. She will be sorely missed.
Family funeral services for Nancy will be Friday, August 14, 2020 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her parents in Rhea Memory Gardens.
