Myra Watterson, age 86 of Soddy Daisy, TN and formerly of Shelby, NC, died Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Rhea Medical Center in Dayton, TN. Myra was born May 11, 1922 in Commerce, GA, the daughter of the late Jett Thomas and Ada Lee (Seagraves) Burroughs. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Monroe Watterson.
Myra was a Charter member of the Churchill Drive Baptist Church and member of the Westwood Heights Baptist Church in Shelby, NC where she lived until 2005. She was a former owner/operator of Bill’s Sandwich Shop and Watterson’s Crafts in Shelby. She was active in the Gideon Auxiliary and Lions Auxiliary.
Myra is survived by her daughter Melinda (Rev. Paul) Evaul of Soddy Daisy, son William (Carol) Watterson of Banner Elk, NC, brother Jack Burroughs of Newton, NC, sister Joan “Jody” Gore of Kings Mountain, NC, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Myra will be held Sunday at 4:00 pm at the Westwood Heights Baptist Church in Shelby, NC with Rev. Jimmy Black officiating. Entombment will follow at the Cleveland Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, TN where they will receive friends Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm and Sunday one hour before the service at the church. In Shelby, the family is being served by the Cleveland Funeral Home.
