Mildred Beene

Mildred Emmeline (Bowman) Beene, age 102, daughter of the late J. Hayes and Elsie (Morgan) Bowman and widow of Homer T. Beene, died Monday, January 14, 2007 at the Rhea County Nursing Home after many years of loving care by the staff there. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marie Bowman and a brother, Hiram Bowman.

Survivors include daughter Elsie (Beene) Robinson and son-in-law William E. Robinson of Dayton and son Reece Beene and daughter-in-law Lillian of Graysville, TN. Her grandchildren are Rebecca Beene of Huntsville, AL, Mildred Beene, Andy Beene and Bruce Beene of Graysville, Joan (Robinson) Whiteside of Knoxville, TN, Kathy (Robinson) Griffin of Dayton and John Robinson of Airmont, NY and twelve great-grandchildren.

Mildred was valedictorian of Graysville High School, class of 1923 where she later taught. She was a life-long member of Graysville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 70 years. She and her late husband operated Lone Mountain Farms for many years.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am at the Graysville United Methodist Church with burial in the Pleasantview Cemetery, followed by a white dove release. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family is being served by Vanderwall Funeral Home where they will receive friends Tuesday after 4:00 pm. Mrs. Beene will lie in state at the church one hour before her service.
