Mildred Avery

Mildred Williams Avery, age 93, of Dayton, passed Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in Dayton. She was born February 9, 1919 in Evensville to the late John and Myrtle (Douglas) Howerton. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, J.W. “Jesse” Williams and Tommy Avery and four sons, Jesse T.Williams, Freddie Williams, Harold Williams and John Williams.
A lifelong resident of Rhea County, Mildred worked for Kayser-Roth in Dayton and then for Girl’s Preparatory School in Chattanooga as a cook. She was active with the foster grandparents program in Chattanooga and was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son Robert (Linda) Williams of Mesquite, TX, daughter Margaret (William “Sonny”) Swafford of Dayton, eleven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services for Mildred will be Sunday at 5:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Henderson officiating. She will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens.
