Melvin Glyndene Hall, Jr, 73, of Dayton passed away November 7th at Tennova Medical Center Cleveland. Melvin Jr was born in Portsmouth, VA. He lived in Dayton most of his life. He graduated from Rhea Central High School in 1966 and then attended Austin Peay State University. Melvin Jr was on the football team at both Rhea Central High School and Austin Peay State University. He started his employment at the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant in Chattanooga, TN. He retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority as an Auxiliary Operator. He had worked at Watts Bar, Kingston, Widows Creek Steam Plants and Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant.
Melvin Jr was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He assisted his wife, Peggie with the ‘American Indians’ promoted state activities for public participation. He also supported the Landscaping Project Committee for the Nancy Ward gravesite near Benton, TN in Polk Co.
Melvin Jr helped with the Trail of Tears Historical Committee. He worked many hours on research in court houses, libraries and personal interviews determining the original roads in Rhea County.
He volunteered on the Boy Scouts Troop 150 Committee. Melvin Jr and Peggie had two sons who became Eagle Scouts.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Tellico River, Rhea County History, rock hunting, watching sports, and genealogy. His happiest moments were when he was outside.
He is survived by two sons, Melvin (Glyn) Hall III Dayton and James R. & (Michele) Hall, Cleveland, TN.
Siblings include Marvin “Bobby” (Ingrid Hall) Dayton, Judy Hall, Elba, AL, Retta (Randy) Ford, Dayton, and Dale (Penny Hall), Glen Burnie, MD.
He is also survived by 7 nieces & nephews and 8 great nieces & nephews. He leaves behind a dear pet cat named Flash.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Peggie) Hall, his parents, Melvin G Hall, Sr and Opal Beatrice Gentry Hall and brother, William (Bill) Hall.
The family is being cared for by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, TN. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 10th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Donald N Welmer at Vanderwall Funeral Home Tuesday, November 10th at 7:00pm. The interment will be at Tyner Cemetery at 10:00 on Wednesday, November 11th.
