Mary “Lula” Matthew, age 72, of Hixson died Friday morning, August 3, 2018 at Soddy Daisy Health Care Center. She was born March 7, 1946 in La Paz, Bolivia, SA to the late George Peñaloza and Beatrice (Vila) Peñaloza.
Mary had been a resident of Dayton for many years before moving to Hixson in 1990. She was a member of Abba’s House in Chattanooga.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James Matthew of Hixson; daughter Denise (Don) Cloud of Huntsville, AL; sisters Martha Aziliarslan of Hixson and Mary Lou Vila Peñaloza of Bolivia; brother Johnny Vila Peñaloza of Santa Cruz; and four grandsons Devin Cloud, Dillan Cloud, Dawson Cloud and Davis Cloud all of Huntsville, AL.
Funeral services for Mary will be held Monday at 12:00 noon in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paulette Phillips officiating. She will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton.

The family is being cared for by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive family and friends Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
