Marvin Mickel, age 77 of Knoxville and formerly of Dayton died Friday morning June 21, 2013 in a Knoxville hospital. Marvin was born in Dayton on February 1, 1936 the son of the late George and Elsie (Stinnett) Mickel. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Mickel, Clarence Mickel and Clyde Mickel and his grandson Mark Lambert.
Marvin was raised in Dayton and lived most of his life in Cleveland and then Knoxville. As a youngster he attended the White Oak Baptist Church and he was employed as a bookkeeper.
Marvin is survived by his three sons, Bobby Mickel of Huntsville, AL, Steve Mickel of Guntersville, AL and David Mickel of Albertville, AL, his three daughters, Patricia Smith of Athens, Janice Lambert of Cleveland and Aimee Branch of Jefferson City, six brothers, Felix Mickel, Jimmy Mickel, Bobby Mickel, Ricky Mickel and Sam Mickel all of Dayton and Gene Mickel of Whitwell, five sisters Willie Mae Swafford, Myrtice Peavyhouse, Melrose Mickel and Georgie Locke all of Dayton and Lois Carpenter of Graysville, ten grandchildren, Brian Mickel, Whitney Payne, Kris Mickel, Somer Mickel, Chance Smith, Maelyn Mickel, Haley Branch, Sarah Branch, Shelby Lambert and Erica Lambert along with his five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his very special companion, Lois Scruggs of Knoxville.
Funeral services with military honors will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald and Rev. Bill Ewing officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
