Leland Samuel Ricketts

Leland Samuel Ricketts, age 74, of Coulterville went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Hospice of Chattanooga. He was born October 29, 1938 in Soddy, TN to the late Clarence and Maggie (Trantham) Ricketts. He was also preceded by his brothers, David Ricketts and Carl Ricketts and his sisters, Romaine Bowman and Glenda McGaha.
Sam was employed with Norfolk Southern Railway as a conductor, retiring in 1998 with 30 years of service. He was a member of Coulterville Baptist Church in Sale Creek. Sam loved the Lord and was devoted to his faith and his family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley (Capps) Ricketts of Sale Creek, two daughters, Debra (Fred) Howard of Sale Creek, and Donna Brown of Memphis, two sons, Tim (Terri) Ricketts of Maryville, and Tom (Betty Lowery) Ricketts of Asheville, NC, sister, Marlene (Charles) Qualls of Soddy, two brothers, Larry (Daisy) Ricketts of Houston, TX, and Ernie (Carol) Ricketts of Bakewell, six grandchildren, Deena (Chris) McBeath, Laura (Brendan) Gambrel, both of Somerset, KY, Jessica (Brian) Garner, Jennifer (Brian) Pressley, both of Asheville, NC, Samuel C. Howard, Kelly Kirkpatrick, both of Sale Creek, Caroline Bishop, and Kenny Dyer, both of Hixson, nine great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Donnie (Theresa) Capps of Dayton, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Sam will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Archie Poole and Rev. Bill Ewing officiating. He will be laid to rest in Varner Cemetery in Soddy.

The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, TN where they will receive friends Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
