Larry “Gene” Roberts, age 85 of Spring City, passed away at his home on Friday, May 15, 2026. He was born in Chattanooga on August 12, 1940, the son of the late Harry Roberts and Bertie (Poston) Roberts. He was also preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” (Phillips) Roberts.
Gene graduated from Oak Ridge High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He made Spring City his home in 1993 and built a career as an Associate Engineer with the Tennessee Department of Transportation. In his free time, he found joy in fishing, golfing, and woodworking.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Susan (Brian) Glaspell of Ontario, Canada; his two sons, Jeff Roberts and Jason Roberts, both of Chattanooga; his five grandchildren, Brad (Kristin) Glaspell, Brittany (Jacob) Glaspell, and Ben (Lucy) Glaspell, all of Ontario, Canada, Alex (Brittney) Doss of Soddy Daisy, and Stuart (Bailey) Doss of Birchwood; his 10 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Don Roberts of Soddy Daisy.
Funeral services with US Navy military honors for Gene will be in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Woychuk officiating. He will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
