Lanny Mauldin

Lanny Elven Mauldin age 66 of Dayton, TN died Saturday, March 24, 2007 in Rhea Medical Center in Dayton. Lanny was born in Mansfield, LA on December 26, 1940 the son of the late Walter and Dorothy (Walker) Mauldin.

Lanny was a graduate of Edgewater High School in Orlando, FL and attended Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. He served his country with the US Army and was a professional photographer.

While living in Indialantic, FL, Lanny was a member of the First United Methodist Church; served as a councilman on the Indialantic Town Council; was a past president of the Melbourne Area Chamber of Commerce and was the owner and operator of Mauldin Photography.

In 1979 Lanny and Barbara moved to Dayton, TN where he was well known for his fish frys and chili. He was a member of the Dayton First United Methodist Church. Lanny was the owner and operator of Mauldin Photography in Dayton and then Quality Photo Services in Chattanooga. He served as a director on the Rhea Medical Center Board of Directors and Rhea Medical Center Foundation Board; former Rhea County Commissioner; former Rhea County Chamber of Commerce President; member of the Civil Air Patrol, Homeland Security, Trout Unlimited and was an avid fly fisherman. Lanny also served on the President’s Conference on Small Business and then with the Governor’s (TN) Conference on Small Business. Recently Lanny was made an honorary member of the Dayton Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. Walmart also recognized Lanny as a Walmart Hometown Hero.

Lanny is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara (Francisco) Mauldin of Dayton, two daughters, Melanie (Chris) Garnand of Graysville, TN and Lisa (Ron) Bailey of Carnation, WA; two sisters, Barbara (Don) Mojave of Leesburg, FL and Mary (Wayne) Smith of Orlando, FL; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Lanny will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel with Rev. John Anderson, Rev. Roger Gupton and W.E. Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Rhea Memory Gardens followed by a white dove release.

The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, TN where they will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm.

Memorial contributions may be made in Lanny’s memory to either the First United Methodist Church in Dayton, TN or to the Rhea Medical Center Foundation Board.
