Langley Owsley, age 91, of Hazard, KY died Tuesday morning, May 13, 2014 at his granddaughter’s home in Dayton, TN. He was born February 16, 1923 in Vest, KY to the late John and Sylvania (Wooten) Owsley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Cassie (Roberts) Owsley; his son, James Owsley; his daughter, Martha Owsley; three brothers, Bill Wooten, Angus Owsley and Jimmy Owsley and one sister, Susie Williams.
A resident of Bulan, KY, Langley also lived in Michigan City, IN and Dayton, TN. He was a coalminer and steel worker, retiring from US Steel in Gary, IN. Langley served his country during World War II in the Mighty 8th Air Force. He was a member of Willow Fern Baptist Church in Bulan, KY where he served as a deacon.
Langley is survived by his son, John Owsley; his two granddaughters, Alison (Keith) Taylor and Holly Owsley; great granddaughter, Lauren Parker; numerous nieces and nephews; church family and many friends.
Funeral services with military honors for Langley will be held Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at the Willow Fern Baptist Church in Hazard, KY with Rev. Clell Miller officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the church. Graveside services will be held Monday at the Greenwood Cemetery in Michigan City, IN with Rev. Tim Murphy officiating.
