Joseph Fred Williams age 89 of Sale Creek went to be with Jesus while surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 in Rhea Medical Center. He was born in Gadsden, AL on April 8, 1918 the son of the late Robert Henry and Rebecca Ann (Collins) Williams. Joe was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Allene Beatrice (Francisco) Williams, his son-in-law, Bobby Sims, his brothers Clarence Williams, Francis Williams, Jesse Williams and Curtis Williams, and his two sisters, Hettie Killingsworth and Nettie Ellis.
Joe was a graduate of the Chattanooga Valley High School and lived in Sale Creek most of his life. He served his country with the US Army during WWII and retired as a section foreman from Dixie Yarns. Joe loved woodworking and singing and was a long time former member of the New Providence United Methodist Church. For the past seven years Joe was a faithful member of the Hilltop Baptist Church in Dayton.
Joe is survived by his son, Joseph A. “Tony” (Debbie) Williams of Evensville, four daughters, Judy (Bob) Meyer of Fort Wayne, IN, Linda Sims of Sale Creek, Peggy (David) Smith of Corryton, TN and Karen (Richard) Knight of Dayton, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Joe will be held Friday morning at 11:00am at the Hilltop Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Kirkland and Rev. Jim Purser officiating. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial with Full Military Honors will be next to his wife in the New Providence Cemetery in Sale Creek.
The family is being served by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Thursday after 6:00pm.
