John Wallace Ballard, age 88, of Evensville died Tuesday evening, June 6, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. He was born February 23, 1929 in Rhea County to the late Dyke and Thelma (Wilkey) Ballard. He was also preceded in death by his wife Bonnie (Housely) Ballard.

John was a resident of Rhea County most of his life where he worked for TVA many years as a public safety officer. He was also a member of the Masons, The American Legion, and a former ambulance driver with Rhea County Emergency Medical Services. He was a member of Summer City Church of God. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War as a chef.

John is survived by his wife Helen (Smith) Elder Ballard of Evensville, his granddaughter LeAnn
(Jeff) Thompson of Spring City, grandson Jay Vaughn Jr. of Rhea County, his four great-grandchildren, Drew Thompson, Blake Thompson, Jay Vaughn, and Kaylee Vaughn. He is also survived by his brothers Ray Ballard, Bruce (Lounell) Ballard, Larry (Evelyn) Ballard, and Tommy (Kathy) Ballard, along with his three sisters Charlotte Dotson, Pat Francisco, Linda (Bobby) Parker, all of Dayton.

Funeral Services for John will be held Friday at 11:00 am in the Vanderwall Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Freddie Marler officiating. He will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens with military honors.

The family is being cared for by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 pm on Thursday.
