Joe Higgins

Herscle Claude (Joe) Higgins, age 73, died Sunday, November 3, 2013 at his home on Dayton Mountain. He was born June 1, 1940 in Hamilton County to the late Ben S. and Ettie Mae (Gentry) Higgins. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren Christy Heard and Nicole Higgins, brothers Thomas Higgins, William Higgins and Arnold Higgins and sister Martha Cameron.
He was a retired truck driver, retiring from Shaw Transport and he loved to mow his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Shirley (Turner) Higgins of Dayton Mountain, son Bobby Joe Higgins of Dayton Mountain, three daughters Dianne (Lloyd) Barnette of Sale Creek, Christine (David) Price and Gale (Kelly) King all of Dayton Mountain, two brothers Ben S. (Myra) Higgins of Soddy Daisy and Robert (Sherry) Higgins of Hixson, one sister Edna (J.L.) Bice of Hixson, nine grandchildren Melanie and Miranda Barnette of Sale Creek, Scotty and Brandon Heard of Dayton, Samantha and B.J. Higgins of Hixson, Forest Williams of Rossville, GA, Emily and Logan King of Dayton Mountain and seven great-grandchildren Brandalyn, Carley, Dillion, Desiree, Evan, Bailey and Haley.
Funeral services for Joe will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Daniels officiating. He will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens.
