Jerry Paul Olinger Sr. age 68 of Marietta, GA died on his birthday Sunday, November 26, 2006 in Townville, SC while visiting family. He was born November 26, 1938 in Dayton, TN the son of the late George and Maggie (Morgan) Olinger.
Jerry lived in Dayton until 1961 when he moved to Atlanta, GA. Jerry was a police officer with the Atlanta Police Department and retired as Captain with the Fulton County Police Department. He served his country with the US Air Force and was a member of Fraternal Order of Police and loved radio controlled model airplanes.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sherry (Keith) Olinger of Marietta, his sons, Jerry Paul Olinger Jr. of Dayton and Terry (Robin) Olinger of Douglasville, GA., his daughter, Tara Denise Olinger of Marietta, five grandchildren, Jessica Michelle Olinger, Jonathan Olinger, Elise Nicole Olinger, Autumn Denise Wallace and Evan Brian Paul Wallace, one great-grandson, Jackie Turner III, brother, Johnny (Linda) Olinger, his sisters, Betty Potter (Leroy) Thurman and Peggy Sue Smith all of Dayton.
Funeral services for Jerry will be held Wednesday at 2pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Morgan Springs Cemetery on Dayton Mountain followed by a white dove release.
The family is being served by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Tuesday 4-8pm.
