James Faris Montgomery, age 87 of Spring City died Wednesday February 17, 2010 at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born April 28, 1922 in Rhea County to the late Willis and Nola (Fortner) Montgomery. He was also preceded in death by step-parents Nora Montgomery and Alvin “Dutch” Morgan, brothers Murl, Howard, John, Billy and Ross Montgomery, Carl Morgan, and sisters Mattie Montgomery, Ruth Trikes, Lila Kelley and Joyce Louallen.
Formerly of Dayton, James was a carpenter and then worked for the Oster Corporation and was the Rhea County Meals on Wheels coordinator. He was a member of the American Legion Post 303 in Spring City and was an Army veteran, serving his country during World War II in the European Theatre. He attended Rockwood Church of God of Prophecy.
James is survived by his wife of 41 years Diane (Knoll) Montgomery of Spring City, daughters Vicki (James) VanBeukering of Chattanooga and Virginia Sutter of Chicago, brother Jerry (Alberta) Montgomery of Dayton, sisters, Helen (Bill) Hicks and Mickey (James) Davis of Dayton, Minnie (Larry) Hill of Trinity, NC, Charlene (Michael) Calhoun of Highpoint, NC, Katherine Oldham of NC and Rosemary Rouse of Battlecreek, MI, four grandchildren, Tony (Nancy) VanBeukering of Collegedale, TN, Michael (Jodie) VanBeukering of Huntsville, AL, Veronica Sutter of Chicago, IL and Julianne Sutter of Lexington, KY, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews including special niece and nephew Ashley Caraway and Tyler Caraway, who are at home.
Funeral services for James will be Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jack Norris officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Rhea Memory Gardens.

The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Friday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
