James Carroll “JC” Smith, age 77 of Evensville, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 24, 2021 at his home in Evensville. He was born in Rhea County on May 7, 1943, the son of the late Samuel C. Smith and Thelma N. (Smith) Smith. JC was also preceded in death by his brothers, Billy R. Smith and Larry D. Smith.

JC was a lifetime resident of Rhea County. He was a Spring City High School graduate Class of 1962. JC served his country in the US Army. He worked for the Silk Mill in Spring City and for TVA as a laborer, a surveyor engineer tech and a custodian at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant. JC was a member of Masons, Shriners and American Legion Post 100. He loved to fish and watch sports on TV. JC was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dortha A. Smith of Evensville; son, James Anthony “Tony” Smith of Evensville; sisters, Janie (Dean) Pritchett of McDonough, GA, Sue (Tony) Potter of Dayton, Mary Louise (Ray) Kirkland of Rockwood; special niece, Megan (Josh) Land and special “granddaughter” Hazel Land all of Dayton; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for JC will be held Friday afternoon, March 26, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Smyrna Cemetery with Dean Pritchett, Rev. Barry Walls and Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating.
Pallbearers, Jimmie Joyce, Tony Potter, Winfried Seals, Greg Shaver, Jacob Riggs and Ben Roberts.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery at 12:15 p.m.
