James Herman Pankey, age 76, passed Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio.. James was born on December 14, 1935 in Pikeville to the late Virgil and Iola (Swafford) Pankey. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin “Duck”, brothers, Steven Pankey, Charles Pankey and MacArthur Pankey and sister, Pauline Bennett.
James was a graduate of Carver High School in Dayton and served his country with the U.S. Army. A resident of Dayton for over 50 years, he retired from TVA.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Georgia Mae (Brown) Pankey of Dayton, three sons, Jamie (Jennifer) Pankey of Dayton, Phillip (Janice) Pankey of Nashville and Steven (Keesha) Johnson of Chattanooga, four brothers, Robert (Pamela) Pankey of TX, Roy Pankey of Pikeville, William (Tama) Pankey of Knoxville and Claude (Lucinda) Pankey of Cookeville and his sister-in-law, Edna Logan of Dayton, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services with military honors for James will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert Henderson officiating. He will be laid to rest in Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday morning at 11:30 am.
