James Ralph Hughes, age 90, of Hendersonville, formerly of Graysville, passed away Thursday night, June 1, 2017 at the NHC nursing home in Hendersonville. He was born in Graysville on June 3, 1926 to the late Ralph and Jimmie Ruth (Green) Hughes.

James was raised in Graysville and served in the United States Navy during the World War II and Korean war. After his service, James worked for Oster Plant as a Plant Maintenance Engineer.

James is survived by his wife of 71 years, Agnes (Brown) Hughes of Hendersonville, daughter, Jennifer (Phillip) Forsythe of Hendersonville, son, Ronald (Kim) Hughes of Lake Site, brother John (Bernice) Hughes of Crossville, sisters, Kitty Bawtenheimer of Cincinnati, OH and Jackie Carr of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Christina Cornelius, Lauren Forsythe, Drew Forsythe, Brandon Hughes, Lori Dillingham and Casey Hughes in addition to four great-grandchildren.

James is preceded in death by his son, Phillip Hughes, sister, JoAnn Roberts, and sister, Jane Strickland.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday at Pleasant View Cemetery in Graysville with Rev. John Fields officiating.
