J.C. Gholdston

Rev. Jewell Clayton Gholdston, age 90 of Dayton went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday afternoon November 2, 2015 at his home. He was born on October 24, 1925 in Dayton to the late George and Edna Ethel (Curton) Gholdston.
J.C. was a graduate of Bob Jones University where he received his B.A. and M.A. in Bible Studies. He was a member of NuDelta Chi at B.I.U., The Evangetical Alliance Mission, Rhea County Historical Society and Rhea County Ministerial Association. His life was dedicated to being a minister of the gospel as missionaries in Spain.
While serving overseas with the U.S. Army during World War II, J.C. was impressed with the great need for the gospel in Europe. Recognizing his personal responsibility to spread the knowledge of the love of God, J.C. dedicated his life to God for missionary services during his senior year at Bob Jones University. This led him and his wife Barbara to serve in Portugal and Spain.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years Barbara (Hardin) Gholdston of Dayton, one son Daniel (Kris) Gholdston of College Park, MD, three daughters Rebecca (Bartolome) Calles of Spain, Deborah (Isidoro) Ballesteros of Madrid, Spain, Ann Elisabeth (Tim) Smith of Seaford, DE, grandchildren Ruben and Pedro Calles of Spain, Victor, Daniel and Fernando Ballesteros of Spain, Aaron Gholdston of Maryland, Lydia (Brandon) Brewington of S.C., and a great-granddaughter Sofia Brewington.
Funeral services with military honors for J.C. will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Steve James officiating. He will be laid to rest Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Buttram Cemetery followed by a white dove release.
