Irene Cooper Long age 96 of Dayton and formerly of Red Bank passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020 in Rhea Medical Center in Dayton. She was born in Valley Head, AL on April 8, 1924 the daughter of the late William Clinton Cooper and Beulah Belle (Richey) Cooper. She was also preceded in death by her husband David Bodkin who was killed in action during WWII and also by her husband John Lewis Long, her son, Philip Long and ten brothers and sisters.
Irene was a longtime resident of Red Bank until moving to Dayton in 2012. She retired after many years of employment with JC Penney as a sales clerk in the women’s department. She was a member of the XYZ Club, JC Penny Retiree Club, American Business Women and the Red Bank Church of Christ. Irene was a beloved wife, mom and granny.
She is survived by her three sons, Jon (Becky) Bodkin of Dayton, Steve (Lezlie) Long of Lakesite and Owen (Pam) Long of Wilmington, IL along with six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Irene will be held Saturday morning, December 19, 2020 at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel with Minister Steve Lusk officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband John Long in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
