A beautiful life was concluded on this earth March 4, 2022, to a glorious eternal life. Ira Neubel, Sr., age 98 of Dayton, passed on Friday, March 4, 2022, at his home. He was born in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Wade and Evelyn (Rowlett) Neubel. He was the sixth of eight children. He was the last, preceded in death by all of his siblings - infant sister Oneida Neubel, Wade Neubel II, Corinne Smith, Esther Hillsman, Charles Neubel, Ruth Hanson, and Reginald Neubel.
Ira’s parents and siblings moved from Detroit, MI, to Chicago, IL, when he was young. He lived most of his life in Chicago and moved to Dayton, TN, over 30 years ago. He attended Wendell Phillips and Tilden Technical High School and as a teenager owned his own printing press. Ira was drafted and became a Veteran in the US Army in World War II in the Pacific Islands. Ira served, was discharged, and obtained a single engine license in flying from his G.I. Bill. Ira met, fell in love, and married Juanita Johnson. He had various jobs in his life. He was a studious and gifted person, very smart, and excelled in math, writing, art and attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Ira worked at Lake Shore Photo Engraving as head of the shipping department as an artist and won an award in art from Medinah Temple. Ira worked for the State of Illinois as a foreman and road engineer of Hwy I-57. He enjoyed nature and working outdoors, being a drafter, doing building projects, woodworking, music, and dancing, and could build or repair almost anything.
Ira was blessed in union to the love of his life, Juanita of 69 years and had four children. He was a devoted husband and father who took great interest in his family and community. He sacrificed working for his family, and he gave an exemplary example of what it meant to be a son, a brother, a man, a father, and an uncle. Ira recognized Jehovah in all things and Immanuel with us and taught how to love each other as a family. Ira’s name means “watchful one” in Hebrew.
Ira was a faithful field service servant and member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and was a colorful person who enjoyed camaraderie with family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife Juanita (Johnson) Neubel of Dayton, TN; his children, Sharon Neubel of Ellenwood, GA, Ira Neubel, Jr. of Dayton, TN, Yvette Muhammad of Morrow, GA, and Michelle Neubel of Dayton, TN; grandchildren, Keith Atwater (step-grandson) of Chicago, IL, Keisha Clay of Atlanta, GA, Krystal Atwater of Buffalo, NY, and Branden Muhammad of St. Petersburg, FL; two great-grandchildren, Eden Clay and Emeri Clay of Atlanta, GA; a devoted sister-in-law, Ruth Foreman of McDonald, TN; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, friends, and friends of his faith of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me blessed is the dead which die in the Lord from hence forth yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labor and their works do follow them.” Revelation 14:13
The family of Ira Neubel Sr. would like to thank the many friends for their words of encouragement, phone calls, visitations, their prayers and other expressions of sympathy. May Jehovah God continue to bless you and keep you in His Care.
