Hester Jane Hanon age 93 of Dayton, TN died Thursday July 19, 2007 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. Hester was born in Dayton on July 6, 1914 the daughter of the late Luther and Tennessee “Tennie” (Knight) Cochran. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harold Hanon and her daughter, Sherrie Luther.
Hester lived all of her life in Rhea County and was a graduate of the Rhea Central High School. Hester was a homemaker and served for many years as a “Graylady” at the Rhea Medical Center. She was an active member of the Graysville Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Dorcas Society.
Hester is survived by her son, David (Linda) Hanon of Ringgold, GA, her six grandchildren, Kris Hanon of Dayton, VA, Letha McLaren of Roswell, GA, Derrick Hanon of Atlanta, GA, Bradley Hanon of Chattanooga, Garylee Casteel of Warner Robbins, Ga, Misty Michelle Casteel of Cleveland, TN and her six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Hester will be held in her church, the Graysville Seventh Day Adventist Church, Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm with Pastor Larry Owens officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband in Rhea Memory Gardens.
The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Saturday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The body will also lie in state at her church one hour prior to the service. Please share your memories with her family at
