Helen Abel Laher, age 84 of Dayton died late Friday, February 27, 2009 in a Rhea County health care facility. Helen was born in Dayton on March 15, 1924 the daughter of the late James and Gladys (Lowry) Abel and was also preceded in death by her husband Donald Laher.
Helen lived all of her life in Dayton where she was a graduate of Rhea Central High School class of 1942. In 1947 she graduated from Tennessee Tech and then was employed as a caseworker for the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services until her retirement 33 years later. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Dayton.
She is survived by her three brothers, Felix Abel and Elbert Abel, both of Dayton and Clifton Abel of Franklin. Helen is also survived by her step-daughter, Debbie Roberts of Dayton, two step-sons, Keith Laher of Dayton and Jay Laher of East Ridge, eight step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Helen will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Milton Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Abel Cemetery in Dayton.
