Grace Elizabeth Adele Thomson age 98 of Dayton went to be with Jesus Thursday evening, December 10, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. Grace was born in Toronto, Canada on June 10, 1922 the daughter of the late James Hargrave Self and Lizzie Adeline (Caldwell) Self. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ker Thomson.
Grace received her three years certificate from the Toronto Bible College and then earned her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Massachusetts. Grace first worked in accounting and then as an art teacher. She was an accomplished organist and vocalist. 57 years ago, Grace single handedly coached a men’s hockey team while living in Massachusetts. Grace has been a resident of Dayton since 1987 where she was a member of Grace Bible Church.
She is survived by her two sons, Dr. David Thomson of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Dr. Clive Thomson of Brownsville, TX, five grandchildren, Sebastian, Liam, David, Michael and Dawn Grace. Also surviving are her three sister-in-law’s, Shirley Self of Unionville, Ontario, Canada, Christine Self of Trenton, Ontario, Canada, and Edith Short of Beamsville, Ontario, Canada.
A celebration of Grace’s life will be held Sunday evening, December 27, 2020 at 4:30pm at Grace Bible Church with her pastor, Dr. Jim Woychuk officiating. Graveside services will be held Monday morning at 10:00 a.m., December 28, 2020 in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
