Former Emporian, Gladys Needels Traylor, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at the Rhea Medical Center in Dayton, TN. She was 98.
Mrs. Traylor was office manager for John North Ford, then served as bookkeeper for Anderson Cattle Company, and retired as an agent for Mutual of Omaha in 1970. During World War II, she worked for the Civil Aeronautics Authority in Kansas City and Denver. She moved to The Courtyard care center in Dayton, TN on March 15, 2008.
The daughter of M.F.and Myrtle Ramsey Needels, she was born in Emporia on September 4, 1910. After attending schools in southern Lyon County, she graduated from Salina High School in 1928. She attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. She married Wayne B. Traylor on September 3, 1930. He died November 1, 1991.
Mrs. Traylor was active in the Emporia PTA and the Science Fair, and was one of the founders of the Hetlinger Developmental Center. She was a member of the Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Jack W. Traylor of Dayton, TN, and a niece, Judy Glenn and a nephew, Richard L. Needels, both of Emporia. She was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard H. Needels.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 28, in the chapel of the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, TN . Burial was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bryan College, 721 Bryan Dr., Dayton, TN 37321
