George Marshall Fox, age 97 of Spring City, TN died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Spring City Care and Rehab Center. He was born September 15, 1913 in Saskatchewan, Canada to the late Samuel and Agnes (Marshall) Fox. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Grace (Brahams) Fox, second wife Olive (Manthorne) Fox and step-son Curt Manthorne.
George left Canada in his teen years, living in California until 1947 when he moved to Lee County, KY as a minister and missionary with the Kentucky Mountain Mission. He was a lifetime member of the Association of North American Missions. In 1982, he returned to California and served as a volunteer with Wycliffe Bible Translators, until 2000 when he moved to Cedine Bible Camp in Spring City, TN and was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church, Grandview, TN.
He is survived by his son David George (Vivian) Fox of Nicholasville, KY, daughters Nancy (Richard) Goocey of Russell, KY, Joan (Dick) Bowers of Cedine in Spring City, TN and Doris (Jerry) Judd of Flemingsburg, KY, step-daughter Marietta (Ron) Lockhart of Murrieta, CA and step-son Steve (Melodie) Manthorne of Anaheim, CA, seventeen grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 5:00 pm at the Christian Fellowship Church with Rev. Stephen Zimmerman officiating. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the funeral.
The family will receive friends Sunday at the Newnam Funeral Home in Beattyville, KY from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. His funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm at the Idamay Bible Church with Rev. David Fox officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Stonecoal Cemetery in Lee County, KY.
