George Mcmanus

George Stanley McManus, a resident of Life Care Center of Dayton, Tennessee passed away on Monday afternoon, February 5, 2018.
George was born February 20, 1926 in Passaic, New Jersey to the late Robert and Jeannette McManus. He loved the outdoors. Fishing and sailing were the things he enjoyed the most, but he was also fond of traveling the world.
George was a visionary. A U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII; well known for his active roles and involvement with his community, and for standing up and defending those who could not defend themselves.
His career included managing several Sand, Gravel, and Concrete facilities for 22 years at Houdaille Industries in North Jersey, then relocating to the Virginia area and retiring from Genstar Stone products in 1986. During his retirement years in the Eastern Shore of Maryland, he served as a Commissioner in the Town of Denton, Maryland and then served as Mayor. He was a Charter Member of the Denton Utility Commission and also represented the Sierra Club on the State Water Quality Advisory Committee’s sludge committee and the Eastern Shore Chapter of the Sierra Club.
George was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy, and brother Robert. He is survived by his daughter Marie Leonardo of Clifton Park, New York and son and Daughter-in-law, George R. and Rebecca McManus of Sale Creek, Tennessee, 5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of the life of George Stanley McManus will be held on Sunday, February 11 at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ken Pierce officiating.
